President Bola Tinubu congratulates Brigadier-General Christopher Oluwole Rotimi (Rtd), Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the United States, on his 90th birthday.

Born on February 20, 1935, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the former army general served in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He was the first African Deputy Quartermaster General and the third indigenous Quartermaster General of the Nigerian Army.

From 1969 to 1970, he commanded the Ibadan Garrison of the Nigerian Army and later served as the military governor of Western State from 1971 to 1975.

President Tinubu thanks the nonagenarian, a recipient of the national honour of the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), for his tenacity and passion in serving the nation as a military officer, governor, and foreign service representative.

The President recalls General Rotimi’s tenure as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States between 2008 and 2009, a role in which he worked diligently to strengthen relations between the two countries and advance Nigeria’s interests.

President Tinubu wishes the elder statesman, an alumnus of Kings College and the University of Ibadan, more years of good health and happiness.
