PRESIDENT TINUBU HAILS SENATOR OLORIEGBE AT 65

President Bola Tinubu congratulates Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, Chairman of the Governing Council of the National Health Insurance Authority of Nigeria, on his 65th birthday, November 12, 2023.

A medical practitioner, Senator Oloriegbe is a public health specialist, organisation process consultant, and
advocate for universal health coverage, mental health and cancer care.

President Tinubu acknowledges Senator Oloriegbe’s remarkable contributions to Nigeria, both during his tenure in the Legislature and his commitment to public health development in the country.

The President appointed Senator Oloriegbe the Chairman of the Governing Council of NHIAN on March 11 2025. Before then, he represented Kwara Central Senatorial District in the 9th Senate of the National Assembly, where he was Chairman of the Committee on Health and Chairman of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Health, among others.

He was also previously a member of the Kwara State House of Assembly between 1999 and 2003, during which he served as the Majority leader of the House and Chairman, House Committee on Health, among others.

President Tinubu remarks, “Senator Oloriegbe is a progressive who has done a lot for Kwara and Nigeria. In his four years in the Senate, he sponsored many bills, some of which eventually became laws that have helped to positively change the landscape of the Nigerian Health Sector.”

One of the laws, the National Health Insurance Authority Act made Health Insurance mandatory in the country, established the Vulnerable Group Fund and engendered major reforms in the Health Insurance Sector.

President Tinubu wishes Senator Oloriegbe good health and many more years of impact.
