President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expresses sorrow over the passing of Lieutenant General Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor (rtd), a distinguished Nigerian soldier, diplomat, and global peace advocate whose exemplary service brought honour to Nigeria and Africa.
President Tinubu describes the deceased as an outstanding patriot who devoted his life to serving humanity, peace, and national development, leaving behind an enduring legacy of professionalism, courage, and selfless leadership.
The President notes that General Obiakor etched his name in history as the first African to serve as the United Nations military adviser for peacekeeping operations. This landmark achievement reflected his exceptional competence and earned him global recognition.
“General Obiakor’s leadership in various peacekeeping missions and his commitment to conflict resolution and post-conflict reconstruction across several regions of the world helped strengthen the reputation of the Nigerian armed forces on the global stage.
“He was a shining example of Nigerian excellence. He served our nation with distinction and carried the banner of Africa with dignity in the international arena. His contributions to global peace, security, and diplomacy will remain a source of pride for generations of Nigerians,” the President says.
President Tinubu extends his heartfelt condolences to the Obiakor family, the government and people of Anambra State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the international peacekeeping community who mourn the loss of an accomplished soldier and statesman.
The President prays that Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and comforts all those affected by this irreparable loss.
