Hajia Nana Shettima

Second Lady, Federal Republic of Nigeria

Hajiya Nana Shettima, wife of Vice President Kashim Shettima, was born on July 22, 1975, in Kano State to Alhaji Usman Alkali, a 2nd-tier customs officer, and Hajiya Maryam Abubakar Albashir, both of blessed memories.

She began her early education in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. At the age of six, she enrolled in an Islamiyya school, and by seven, she was combining Western and Islamic education at Lamisula 1 Primary School, Maiduguri, where she obtained her First School Leaving Certificate in 1988.

She then proceeded to Government Girls College, Maiduguri. In 2006, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in English Language. She also earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from Sir Kashim Ibrahim College of Education, Maiduguri.

 

Nana Shettima’s passion for supporting the needy and vulnerable became more pronounced when her husband, Senator Kashim Shettima, assumed office as Governor of Borno State in 2011. On July 17, 2012, she established her non-governmental organization, Support for Widows, Orphans, and Tsangaya (SWOT).

 

Through SWOT, she has worked tirelessly to empower and uplift vulnerable populations in Borno State and beyond. Her humanitarian dedication has earned her recognition, including:

              • Most Supportive First Lady Award (2015) by The Sun Newspaper, for her tireless
                support to women and children affected by insurgency.
              • Community and Humanitarian Support Award (2017) by Yerwa
                Express News among other nominations.

 

Hajiya Nana Shettima enjoys reading, watching the news, cooking and Spending time with the family.
